Tabsong Dagbang Maligu, an association of Dagbang Citizens living abroad has funded the construction of a borehole for the people of Yimahigu in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region. The project which will improve access to clean water cost more than 20,000 Cedis and took nearly five months to complete.

Residents of Yimahigu have had to contend with a water crisis situation whose history is as old as the community itself. They have had to rely on streams and other unhealthy and unreliable water sources for domestic purposes, with women and children having to travel long distances every day especially during dry season in search of one of life’s most basic commodity. The intervention is therefore a huge relief as the people will no longer have to drink from sources that expose them to waterborne diseases.

At a short ceremony to commission the project, Coordinator of the Tabsong Dagbang Maligu, Mudasir Ahmed Hafiz, mentioned that water was a basic necessity of life which must be made readily available especially to underprivileged communities, adding that it was the aim of the group to help expand access to potable drinking water.  Mr. Mudasir urged residents to take good care of the project and ensure its regular maintenance so as to prolong its lifespan to benefit future generations.

On his part, the chief of Yimahigu, Alhaji Abubakari Mahama, expressed on behalf of the community his profound gratitude to the indigenes in the diaspora, noting that their gesture will go a long way to improve the lives of the people. He however made a passionate appeal to NGOs, Government and benevolent groups and individuals to as a matter of urgency provide the community with electricity
