A health – centered NGO, Stimulate Africa, over the weekend held a durbar at gupanarigu, a small community in the Kumbungu District of the Northern Region to sensitise the people on malnutrition and its dire effects on human development. Hundreds of residents from the host and surrounding communities graced the event as medical and nutrition experts took turns to educate the people on issues such as maternal health, diet, breastfeeding, malnutrition, hygiene as well as reproductive and sexual health.
As part of the event, a football match dubbed #KickoutMalnutrition Gupanarigu Team A and B slug it out, with the Team running out as one-zero winners to lift the coveted kickout malnutrition trophy.
Head of Stimulate Africa, Maureen Ngozi Chukwurah, explained afterwards to NTV that her outfit recognized football was loved by all ages across the world and they were capitalizing on the power of the sport to drive change in the form of eradicating malnutrition and its associated consequences on the people.
Ms. Maureen disclosed that the welfare of women and children was a matter of priority and that going foward, her organisation was going to roll out more initiatives and continues to reach out to more communities with the #Kickout malnutrition campaign.
As part of the event also, the people also benefitted from a free medical outreach as a health team from the Kumbungu Kings Medical Center took time to examine, educate people on how to manage their ailments and provided medication for those with mild condition. People whose conditions were found to be severe were giving referral letters to seek care at the hospital. Some of the residents spoke to NTV and expressed delight and appreciation to Stimulate Africa for their gesture.
