Five communities in the North Gonja District of the Savanna Region have been connected to the national grid under the rural electrification project, setting another mark for the current dispensation as DCE for the area, Hon. Adam Eliasu Red Bawa, prioritises electricity coverage expansion with the hope of enhancing living standard of the people.
The communities, Disa, Singa, Tari 1, Tari 2 and Gbasimpa are the latest to have gained access to electricity, making it ten communities in all from the District since the turn of the year 2017. Areas such as Mankarigu, Yagbon, Sakpala, Lukula, Kaden among others have already been connected with many more communities expected to gain access by end of the year 2020.
The DCE along with Deputy Savanna Regional Minister, Samuel Yeyu Tika and NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Daboya/Mankarigu, Hon Alhaj Mahama Asei Seini, and host of others yesterday led a ceremony to commission the use of the Power to the delight of hundreds of residents.
Hon. Adam Eliasu said he chose to make expansion of electricity coverage a priority because it is one effective way to accelerate socio-economic development and improve the standard of living for the people.
Whilst expressing satisfaction at the fact that campaign promises made to the people in the area are being redeemed, the DCE said his ultimate goal was to ensure 100% electricity coverage in North Gonja before his term Chief Executive for the area ends.
In an election year and just five months away to the general elections, Hon. Adam Red Bawa could not resist throwing shades at the National Democratic Congress as he compared the records of the two parties in terms of improving electricity coverage.
He said for the eight years that the NDC was in power, only five communities were connected to the national grid as compared to ten connected so far in the last three and half years of the NPP.
