The National Board for Small Scale Industries has provided entrepreneurial support to seven women from selected communities in the North Gonja District of the Savanna Region to boost their start – ups, modernize enterprises and enhance livelihoods.
Four of the women who received training in Shea nut processing were each given motorized Sheanut crusher and roaster machines, whilst the other three who underwent training in soap making also got soap cutting machines, hydrometer and caustic soda to reduce the labour intensive nature of their businesses.
District Chief Executive, Hon Adam Eliasu Red Bawa, flanked by the District Coordinating Director, Alhaji Alidu Abubakari, presented the agro processing equipment to the women who mainly were drawn from Daboya, Yagbon and kagbal communities.
Hon Red Bawa charged the beneficiaries to prove to the district assembly that they are actually worthy beneficiaries by taking good care of the equipment and produced more goods for the local market. The DCE also eulogized the Akuffo Addo government for the introduction of various entrepreneurial schemes aimed at Sustaining upcoming enterprises and lifting people out of poverty.
Madam Saaka Salamatu, one of the beneficiaries spoke on behalf of her colleagues and expressed appreciation to the DCE, the district assembly and government for the intervention, pledging she and her colleagues were going to put the machines into good use and produce value added goods for the markets.
The NBSSI in the North Gonja District has been engaging in a lot of human resource development, providing vocational and technical skills training, capital support, exposure to ready market and Networking Opportunities for the people.
According to Head of the Board, Mr. Amin Abdul – Basit, access to credit facility, raw materials and logistics have been a major challenge for their trainees but said he felt fulfilled that central government was now stepping up to the challenge by providing liquidity support to start – ups and existing enterprises.
