NTV has through its Zakat Foundation Donated food items to authorities of the Tamale Central Prisons to support the upkeep of inmates of the prison facility.
The items worth over a thousand Cedis included 8 bags of rice, one bag of sugar, cooking oil, dozens of hand sanitisers to ward off COVID-19 and an undisclosed cash amount.
General Manager of NTV, Enoch Alalbila Nashiru, who presented the items to the prison authorities said the station’s gesture was aimed at extending compassion to the inmates, especially as some of them endure fasting in the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
Mr. Nashiru paid tribute to UTAG – UDS, revealing it is through their partnership that the hand sanitisers which formed part of the items were donated to support the station’s COVID-19 campaign.
Supt of Prisons, Divine Ocloo received the items on behalf of the inmates and expressed gratitude to NTV for the generousity but appealed for more of such intervention.
On his part, Programs Manager of NTV, Rubai Abdul Waris who oversaw the mobilisation of the Zakat Fund was grateful to individuals and groups who contributed to the fund.
He hinted of the network’s intention to make the intervention an annual affair and appealed for more support.
